Our pleasant and helpful staff will guide you on Derry City attractions and other activities throughout the Northwest into Donegal. From walking the Derry Walls and the open air gallery of the Bogside Artists to taking in a show at the Millennium Forum or the Playhouse, we can help our guests understand what Derry has on offer. Due to it’s long and eventful place in history, starting as the monastic settlement of Doire, Derry has quite a few museums such as the Derry Genealogy Centre’s Heritage and Museum Service, the Free Derry Museum, the Tower Museum and the Workhouse Museum to help understand the area’s character and culture. There’s a lot to do in terms of sport as well. For example there are 9 walks in and around Derry City, bike paths along the River Foyle, golfing, boating, fishing, and a bowling & indoor play centre at the Brunswick Cinebowl. The Foyle Cup is in its 20th year as Ireland’s premiere International Youth Football Tournament. And if it’s nature that inspires you Derry is abundant in beautiful scenic spots such as Ness Woods and Ballyarnett as well as many locations to watch the variety of species of birds that make Derry a unique place in the world for birdwatching. Derry’s natural resources create a lovely back drop to spiritual practices of all creeds and so visitors enjoy St Eugene’s Cathedral, St Columb’s Cathedral, St Columb’s well, Island of Saints & Scholars Centre, and the Longtower Church. For those whole love music and dance, Derry has lively venues for traditional to modern music. Peadar O’Donnells is famous for traditional Irish music. Every year in April/May Derry hosts a Jazz & Big Band Festival. Derry is full of bars like the Collon Bar and nightclubs like Sugar and Earth which make Derry a favourite for Hen and Stag Dos. Besides this there are even more festivals worth taking in like Celtronic, the Walled City Music Festival and the City of Song Festival. The Northwest Irish Dancing Championships floods the town with fantastic dancers from all over Ireland. By far the favourite of children and adults alike is Derry’s Banks of the Foyle Halloween Carnival. For literature & the arts we have the Big Oaks Festival and for film lovers there’s the Foyle Film Festival. As you can see there is very good reason why Derry was chosen the very first City of Culture so join us in 2013 to celebrate Derry’s flight out of the past into a fabulous future.
